Founded in 2008 the Club has celebrated its 10th Anniversary in 2018 and has 6 Championship banners in its first 10 years. We attract players aged 8 to 18 + with age groups u11s through to Senior teams. The players come from far and wide (Hull, Ryedale, Scarborough …) and we are very successful because the Eagles are clear in their commitment to ‘Develop young people in and through the Sport of B/Ball’. It is the person we really want to develop through sport …. (and we choose a great team sport called Basketball)
We have teams at u11, u12, u13, u14 (x2), u16 (x2) u18 playing National League (NL) against teams from Leeds, Bradford, Sheffield of a w/end and Senior Teams in the Leeds and District League playing midweek. We also have for new/younger players a series of Tournaments (Central Venue Leagues CVLs) and Regional League games on a w/end.
Training is at mainly at YORK COLLEGE YO23 2BB (please see separate sheet for training times as these are based on age). We do offer an OPEN SESSION for any young player in School Year 9 (14 years old) on SATURDAY 3 to 5 pm at College. We welcome junior players of any age between 8 and 18 and any ability but we want players who when ready to play National League (NL) are prepared to train at least twice a week (with a little flexibility). Our NL players should be and are serious about their b/ball !
We are fortunate to have with YORK COLLEGE (YO23 2BB) the best basketball venue in North Yorkshire with a 6 basket 2 court floor. Parking is free after 5 pm and at w/ends and the College is located in a convenient area just off the A64 with easy access and a Tesco 24/7 superstore opposite for parents to escape to.
Our coaches as you would expect are qualified, experienced and have a current DBS. More than this ALL Eagles Coaches are player centred and will always try and do what is right for the player – this includes both praise and feedback to help players improve.
We ask for those training twice a week to pay £30 a month for 8 months and a Basketball England Governing Body registration fee of either £100 (core) or £50 (non core) depending on their game status as some invited players will be core players. Players not playing NL are asked to pay and play with a session fee of £5.
Is organised with a Committee of Chairman, Secretary, Treasurer, Coaches and Team Secretaries for each age group. There are few meetings as the Club has a strong base of good people and any issues are quickly sorted out.
Game kit is provided (vest, shorts) but we ask parents to purchase an Eagles reversible training top. For the 2021/22 season we have on our website a Eagles Kit package for parents as well as the opportunity to purchase individual items.
Basketball like many Team Sports requires individuals to improve their fundamentals – shooting/dribbling and passing. It also requires a team approach with individuals working as a team on offense and defense. And of course physical fitness. We ask our young players to work on their fundamentals and physical development separate from the training sessions at home/local parks – especially over summer.
Returning to personal development. Young people are faced with a lot of challenges & at Eagles we hope their attendance at training and games helps them gain confidence to meet these challenges and develop a ‘growth’ mindset. So winning is good but for every winner there is a loser. So we encourage our players to be winners first then when winning or losing happens we can still finish as winners. Our belief is that hard work & commitment will eventually bring success & talent whilst helpful is no guarantee of future success.
We have teams from u11 to u18 (Juniors) and Seniors (Adults).SENIORS train on a TUESDAY evening.
