GAME REPORT:
SUNDAY 10TH SEPTEMBER 2023 – GRIMSBY PHOENIX 38-50 YORK EAGLES (U14s GIRLS FRIENDLY)
York Eagles U14s Girls side, have only trained together once since the summer break, put up a very good performance against a much older and much bigger Grimsby Phoenix side, who lacked experience, so it was a game that turned out quite even. A lot of work still to be done offensively and defensively before season start as the girls aim to have successful season at U14s Conference.
Coach Ghada Khattab commented on yesterday’s performance:
“The girls had a great first match back after the summer break against a much bigger U16s Grimsby/Hull team. After a rusty start with both teams struggling to score, Maya opened up with a few baskets, giving us that extra needed boost to take control of the game. Our defence was a highlight especially in the first half as we denied the opponents to score, followed by excellent fast breaks and quick offense to allow easier scoring opportunities.
Apart from the great work from our starting players, it was also good to see other players step up today and show their potential.”
Maya Foulkes was named “Player of the Game’, finishing with 12pts, 5 rebs, 3 assists and 2 blocks and kicked things off when York were struggling to get going at the start. One of her better scoring performances.
Last week was an unconventional one for most of our National League teams, as due to lack of venue until this week, we stacked teams together in one venue as we got started in our pre-season training.
As of Monday 11th, – we now start our “proper” training schedule, which you can find on our website.
