WEEK 22!
Saturday 8th March
York Eagles 2 v City of Leeds Black
U14 JrNBL North Conference 1
Result: 41-57 (LOSS)
Player of the Game:
Alex Lawson – 2pts/20rebs/5stls
Notable Performances:
George FitzThomas – 23pts/10rebs
Coach James Searson commented on the U14 Boys 2 performance:
“I thought Saturday’s game was a good match-up. If we hadn’t had such a bad first half full of turnovers and missed opportunities, we could have won this game. I’m not sure where the confidence that we started last week’s game has gone but we need to get it back. 3rd Quarter was an improvement and the first part of the final quarter, as we tied up the game, until we reverted back to errors which ultimately cost us, we look forward to playing them again in a few weeks. MVP was Alex, fantastic effort as always, but rebounding very well and looked poised on both ends.”
York Eagles v City of Leeds White
U14 JrNBL North Conference 1
Result: 95-25 (WIN)
Player of the Game:
Conor – 21pts/9rebs/7stls
Notable Performances:
Leo Frusher – 12pts/10rebs
Fin Lewis – 10pts/3asts
Henderson Ho – 12pts/6rebs
Coach Tyler Paton-Pottage commented on the U14 Boys 1 Performance:
“After last week’s defeat, this was a good chance to really focus on our systems on offence, against a younger and less experienced side in Leeds, it was also a good opportunity to get those having missed games through injury and illness to return and get some good minutes. A slow start as we failed to execute our non-negotiables (spacing, off ball movements), we eventually got going thanks to Fin who provided the goods. 2nd quarter was very much like our usual selves, finishing with confidence but matched with good deny positioning on defence to limit Leeds' attempts. 2nd half, we started to become a little sloppy on 1st phase in finishing and relying on putbacks and offensive rebounds to the scoring, we are better than this, so some detailed work on Monday, ready to beat York Eagles 2 on Wednesday night, and clinch our spot as runners-up this season.”
York Eagles v Leicester Riders
U16 JrNBL Girls North Conference
Result: 43-47 (LOSS)
Notable Performance:
Maya Foulkes – 17pts/4rebs (x2 3PM)
Coach Ghada Khattab commented on the U16 Girls performance:
“This was our game to lose this week, but we unfortunately did not do enough to create a comfortable lead from the start, or to maintain it once we had it by half time. On offence, we were reluctant to drive or break through the Riders’ defence, and despite creating opportunities for our teammates, our shooting and finishing was underwhelming. On defence we had some great moments when we put pressure on our opponents and stole/block the ball, but many others when we stood still and watched them shoot, leading costly 3s from Riders’ or when we moved too late to stop a drive, allowing their top player too many finishes. Injuries didn’t help us this week, but so much to work on going forward.”
York Eagles 2 v Sheffield Sharks Yellow
U16 JrNBL North Conference 2
Result: 27-78 (LOSS)
Player (s) of the Game:
Sebastian Lewin – 5pts/6rebs
Josh Ameodo – 6pts
Alvin Chan – 3pts/5rebs
Coach Dave Smith commented on the U16 Boys 2 performance:
“Saturday’s game was a mixed bag, it was a positive performance with at times some really good stuff on both ends, our defensive pressure was good but wasn’t matched with lack of rebounding, which Sharks outback efficiently. On offence, good ball movement lead to some nice baskets, but not consistent enough to close the scoreline. Some work on layups with contact or pressure, I felt Sharks were gifted the 50pt win because of it. On another day, that score would be a lot closer.”
Sunday 9th March
York Eagles @ City of Leeds Black
U12 Yorkshire Boys Regional
Result: 37-71 (WIN)
Player of the Game:
Isen Ndulue – 13pts/7rebs
Notable Performances:
Arthur Bewlay – 14pts/6rebs/3stls
Harry George – 10pts/4rebs
Thomas Atkinson – 10pts
Will Hall – 8pts/5rebs/5stls
Coach David Veige commented on the U12 Boys performance:
“A very fast-paced, scrappy game seeing York Eagles defeat Leeds Black on Sunday. The Eagles got the initial jump on Leeds with some hard nose defence creating opportunities during transition to offence. Leeds stayed in the game and never game up with some excellent rebounding and flurries of offence. Some outstanding team play from the Eagles with every player getting on the scoreboard resulting on a resounding victory over Leeds 71-37.”
York Eagles v Sheffield Sharks
U18 Friendly
Result: 52-76 (LOSS)
York Eagles v Sheffield Advance
U13 Yorkshire Boys Regional
Result: 98-30 (WIN)
Player of the Game:
THE TEAM
Notable Performances:
Jake Richardson – 29pts/6asts/9stls
Harry Kim – 14pts/3rebs
George FitzThomas – 13pts/5asts/6rebs
Billy Kemp – 12pts/2rebs
Coach James Searson commented on the U13 Boys performance:
“Good win, always nice to play our own age group once in a while. We set targets pregame of 25 assists and to get every player on the scoresheet, which we achieved. We set another target at HT over 100pts and only missed out on it by a single basket. MVP was the whole team, nice to see the lads play with confidence and have fun.”
York Eagles @ Derby Trailblazers
U16 JrNBL Northern Premier
Result: 76-68 (LOSS)
Player of the Game:
Aleks Meszek – 15pts/10rebs/4stls/3blks
Coach Reece Horton commented on the U16 Boys 1 performance:
“Started well but struggled against the size and strength of Derby bigs in the 2nd quarter especially, in the 2nd half we did step up and battled valiantly till the end with a big 4th quarter (winning 27-17), but falling just short. Onto the next one v City of Leeds Gold.”
York Eagles 3 v Sheffield Elite Academy II
U16 JrNBL North Conference 2
Result: 48-64 (LOSS)
Player of the Game:
Will Poole – 16pts/24rebs
Notable Performances:
Iker Martinez Chavana – 8pts/3rebs
Hayden Fogg – 8pts/3asts/5stls
Coach Gary Poole commented on the U16 Boys 3 performance:
“We went into the game knowing that it was going to be evenly matched, which it was. We pretty much traded baskets through the first and second quarters. Everyone worked hard as usual but unfortunately we didn’t really utilise the fact we had a taller/stronger presence inside. We didn’t stop them making the same offensive moves even though we could see what they were doing. We had too many turnovers and missed shots that we usually sink. Some of our fast breaks weren’t fast, and we sometimes quelled. Our transition wasn’t as smooth as they should be which we spend a lot of time on. Elite eventually pulled away in the 3rd Q, not the result we hoped for but good team spirit!
