WEEK 24! (FINAL WEEK OF REGULAR SEASON)

U18 JrNBL North Conference 1
Result: 73-67 (LOSS)
Player of the Game: Lukai Ostrowski – 17pts/3stls (x3 3PM)
Notable Performances:
Travis Greening – 22pts/4asts/4stls
Emilis Vildziunas – 12pts/7rebs/5blks
Coach Paul Pickering commented on the U18 Men’s performance:
"The sign-off to a great season didn't quite go as planned. With all of the off-court controversy playing on the players' minds, we struggled to get going into our usual rhythm. Throughout the game, we had excellent looks, good ball and player movement, but the shots just would not drop; we got nothing and Mowhawks were clinical and all of their shots dropped. If we had scored another 20% of our missed shots, the game would have been York's, our efficiency hurt us today from the field. I do not normally mention officiating, but we had one very poor official that was noted by both the other team players and his Crew Chief, fouling out three of our key players in the 4th quarter when it was all to play for. A great season and a great team, proud of them all, and we await to see if we gain a playoff berth to continue it."

Coach Tyler Paton-Pottage commented on the U14 Boys 1 Performance:
“I can’t quite believe the season has finished already, it only felt like last weekend, we were playing in our first away game at Teesside. It is night and day in terms of player and team development from where we are now! It’s fantastic to see the group continue to grow, we finished the season in style on Saturday, with true basketball being played with some excellent performances. This all came from the lads buying into the direction in which the coaches want to play, we moved off the ball well, and opened up chances for drive and kicks which we then executed our shots, some fantastic ball movement in transition to create advantages which allowed us to score efficiently. Shows that with team basketball, we can be very hard to beat on both ends, as we are energetic on defence and force players to make errors, and we are now smarter on offence. Proud of this group, and long may it continue into summer and beyond…”
York Eagles 2 v City of Leeds Black 2
U11/12 Friendly
Result: 54-18 (WIN)
Player of the Game:
Notable Performances:
Isen Ndulue – 14pts/15rebs/2blks
Matthew Bowman – 13pts/4asts
Arty Veige – 10pts
Coach Dave Veige commented on the U11/12 Boys Performance:
“Eagles hosted a friendly against Leeds Black 2, which proved to be a great rivalry. The excitement for these young players was evident, as for some it was the first time they donned the Eagles' jersey. It was a fast-paced match between 2 sides with some excellent passing and rebounding from us. A very athletic Leeds squad did not lay down without a fight with some impressive transitions. But our lads played very well!”
York Eagles v City of Leeds Black
U12 Yorkshire Regional League
Result: 49-34 (WIN)
Player of the Game: Tom Baxter – 11pts/4asts/3rebs
Notable Performances:
Judah Wilson – 10pts/8rebs/5asts
Will Hall – 10pts/6rebs
Isen Ndulue – 7pts/10rebs
Coach Adam Wilson commented on the U12 Boys performance:
“It was a fitting win for our final game of the season. It was good to see a number of players with strong performances and to finish the U12 Regional only losing against 2 sides. The win was never really in doubt, but we definitely lowered our game to theirs rather than play our brand of happy offence and pressure defence. We need to be ready for the big step-up next year when we will be playing U14 national league, so playing players a year older and potentially bigger, stronger and faster than us. So, making sure we continue to improve our ball handling, movement and especially our finishing. We only made 30% from the field on Saturday, which means a lot of hard work went to waste. A strong summer of training and preparing will help us hit the ground running next season.”
York Eagles 2 @ City of Leeds Black
U14 JrNBL North Conference 1
Result: 72-44 (LOSS)
Player of the Game:
Nate Wilkinson – 14pts
Notable Performances:
George FitzThomas – 10pts
Billy Kemp – 10pts
Coach James Searson commented on the U14 Boys 2 performance:
“We started terribly today, Leeds came at us 100 miles an hour. Pressed aggressively, and we looked like we’d never seen a press before. Also, Leeds couldn’t miss, so the damage was done early. We then got better as the game went on and were more equal, we just need to take care of the ball and not force anything. 4th quarter, we looked like a different team, doing team things well and keeping it simple. The standout player was Nate, he was forced up for the game and scored well. It has been a season of learning and also good experiences for players to see what NL is like.”
York Eagles v Manchester Magic
U16 JrNBL Northern Premier
Result: 47-52 (LOSS)
Player of the Game:
Aleks Meszek – 12pts/7rebs
Coach Reece Horton commented on the U16 Boys 1 Performance:
“Really proud of the performance from the boys against the league winners. We fought for all four quarters and kep them below 60 points. Such an improvement over the season!”
Sunday 23rd March:

Molly Jones – 7pts/7rebs/3stls/2blks
Zofia Parsons – 4pts/12rebs/14stls/3asts
Coach Ghada Khattab commented on the U16 Girls performance:
“Whole team MVP as everyone fought hard despite a depleted team and injured players. Some great teamwork with all players creating great opportunities for themselves or their teammates, but the finish definitely want on our side on Sunday.”
York Eagles v City of Leeds Gold
U13 Yorkshire Regional
Result: 66-61 AOT (WIN)
Player of the Game: Jake Richardson – 18pts/6rebs/3stls
Notable Performances:
George FitzThomas – 23pts/7rebs
Billy Kemp – 9pts/12rbes
Alessio Vento Joyce – 8pts/10rebs
Coach James Searson commented on the U13 Boys performance:
“Similar to the day before at Leeds Black, we started poorly, we gave the ball away too easily and didn’t defend to our usual standard. 2nd quarter was like a wake-up call; we switched on and moved the ball well enough to create good looks from beyond the arc, which George gladly took, getting us a slender lead at HT. The start of the 2nd half was fairly equal as both teams were going at it on both ends, 4th quarter, we started to look tired, and Leeds managed to peg us back to force overtime. Then we cooled our game and prevailed, some great clutch FTs from Jake, who was our MVP, led the team, and we remain unbeaten at U13.
