WEEK 23!
Saturday 15th March
York Eagles 2 v City of Leeds White
U14 JrNBL North Conference 1
Result: 51-43 (WIN)
Player of the Game: George Griffiths
Notable Performances:
George FitzThomas – 29pts/7rebs
Coach James Searson commented on the U14 Boys 2 performance:
“We managed to grind out a win on Saturday. Target was to go and win the first half to take the pressure off us in the 2nd half which we did, but then the 3Q which is usually, our best, but on this occasion, we switched off and let them back in it. We then got our heads together and controlled ourselves well in the 4th to get the win over the line. MVP was George Griffiths, his defensive efforts were superb and got some big stops and took the pressure off others.”
York Eagles 2 @ Derbyshire Arrows

Coach Tyler Paton-Pottage commented on the U16 Boys 2 Performance:
“Final game of the season, and I had the pleasure to take the U16 down to South Sheffield to take on formidable Arrows, Arrows had size and speed in abundance. However, we were not fazed at all, we had 3 young players (x3 U14 1) step up to make up numbers but also brought their best as they showed the older ones how to communicate well on both ends. This benefited massively as we went on a 10-2 run and had the game back to 30-20, this had Arrows a little frustrated. This quarter showed what the group can achieve if they communicate and show confidence. 2nd half we slightly reverted back to the usual antics of sloppy passes, which allowed Arrows to score quickly with success. Considering where most of these guys were in August, they have come a long way! A big summer now to work on their skills and build their confidence.”
York Eagles 3 v Barnsley Advance
U16 JrNBL North Conference 2
Result: 32-65 (LOSS)
Player of the Game:
Trevor Wood – 13pts/3rebs (x4 3PM)
Notable Performances:
Will Poole – 4pts/17rebs
Iker Martinez Chavana – 7pts/2rebs
Freddie Drummond – 8pts/4rebs
Coach Gary Poole commented on the U16 Boys 3 performance:
“I think we were all a little disappointed with the game against Barnsley to say the least. Although, I think we were fairly matched as teams we didn’t ever get in front. Everyone gave 100% as per usual but we seemed to not have the buzz or gel as a team for some reason. Not the game we wanted for our last game of the season, but I have to say in think we should be proud of ourselves this season! We are all u15s and 6 new players which never played NL before. They have come together as a team and had some valuable experiences but more importantly made new friends.”
Sunday 16th March:
York Eagles v Leicester Riders
U16 JrNBL Girls North Conference
Result: 43-47 (LOSS)
Player (s) of the game:
Maya Foulkes – 26pts/3stls/3rebs
Danika Croft – 16pts/5stls/3rebs
Notable Performance:
THE TEAM
Coach Ghada Khattab commented on the U16 Girls performance:
“This was not our best game by any means, but the way we fought back from behind was impressive and the way we managed to hold on to our lead despite a very physical and length game took some grit and determination. We’d started really slow and initially allowed the full court defence by the Hatters’ to get to us, leading to costly turnovers. Our shooting was also lackign in confidence. But once we decided to up the pressure of our own defence, we seriously frustrated our opponents and turned things around with a quick series of steals and drives. We went into HT with a slim lead and focused on strategies to maintain our strong defence to stop a comeback from Sheffield, while also improving our shooting opportunities. We managed both beautifully and, by doing so, have now sealed 3rd place in the league. Very prod of the girls managing the pressure.”
