WEEK 21!
Saturday 1st March
York Eagles @ Manchester Mystics II
U16 JrNBL North Conference (Girls)
Result: 67-57 (LOSS)
Player of the Game:
Danika Croft – 23pts (11/15 FG)
Notable Performances:
Maya Foulkes – 21pts (x5 3PM)
Coach Ghada Khattab commented on the U16 Girls performance:
“This was defiantly a better performance compared with our last encounter with Mystics, and one we should be proud of despite the loss. Our 1st Q was our strongest and seriously rattled the Mystics, especially our determination to match the kind of intense defence required against a well drilled team. But foul trouble early on and a depleted team made it hard to sustain this throughout, and a great comeback by the Mystics in the 2nd Q cost us dearly. We came back fighting in the 2nd half and showed some grit and perseverance to get the ball on defence (with whole team effort as well as Zofia doing her usual stellar work). On offence, Danika grabbed every opportunity to drive through a gap whils Maya fought some very tight targeted defence, both producing 20pts+. We should really proud knowing that this the team currently contesting the league title and who might end up national champions at U14 level too.”
York Eagles v Scarborough Seahawks
U12 Boys Yorkshire Regional League
Result: 54-44 (WIN)
Player of the Game:
Finley Tucker – 15pts (7/8 FG)
Notable Performances:
Sam Coventry – 6pts/6rebs/3stls
Isen Ndulue – 8pts/7rebs
Judah Wilson – 7pts/6rebs/3asts/3stls
Coach Adam Wilson commented on the U12 Boys Performance:
“Saturday’s game saw us secure a scrappy win against Scarborough. A win was never really in doubt, but our performance left a lot to be desired. We lowered our game to theirs rather than controlling the game and playing our way. Lots to learn when it comes to mental toughness! Fin Trucker was our standout player with 15pts. He stepped up when lots of the team were struggling to get their heads in the game.”
Sunday 2nd March
York Eagles @ City of Leeds
U13 Yorkshire Girls Regional
Result: 13-64 (WIN)
Player of the Game:
Florence Walker – 12pts/7asts/5stls/2rebs
Cheri Ng – 4pts/7stls/2rebs
Notable Performances:
Sylvie Blanchard – 16pts/10rebs/5stls
Sofia Peacock – 12pts/7rebs/3stls
Zuza Bogdanska – 10pts/8stls/2asts
Coach Ghada Khattab commented on the U13 Girls performance:
“This was the young girls’ best performance of the season so far, with everyone working hard on both ends of the court. On defence we moved faster than usual and closed out on our opponents, leading to steals by absolutely everyone, and some particularly fab ones form Cheri and Zuza. We also had the lions share of rebounds, once again with almost everyone from our smallest to biggest players getting the ball, more noticeably Sofia and Sylvie. On offence we showed better bailouts to look ahead and pass to teammates in the right space, and had more confidence to drove and shoot under the right conditions. Here some great basketball IQ was on display by each of Florence and Michele. Some promising prospects for next season!
York Eagles 2 v York Eagles 3
U16 JrNBL North Conference 2
Result: 34-62
Players of the Game:
(2) Josh Ameodo
(3) Trevor Wood
Coach Dave Smith commented on the U16 Boys 2 Performance:
“I commend the boys for their efforts and hard work. As many games this season, the group play with energy but mixed with bad habits. It’s been a lot of learning the game this season, and a steep one at times against some good teams. Generally, we need players to bring more focus into areas like defence, better decision on offence and smart transition. A working progress… the score I felt flattered the U16 3s today as we had chances.”
Coach Gary Poole commented on the U16 Boys 3 performance:

York Eagles @ Howden Warhorses
U12 Boys Yorkshire Regional

York Eagles @ Newcastle Eagles II
U14 JrNBL North Conference 1
Result: 76-68 (LOSS)
Player of the Game:
Conor – 15pts/13rebs/10stls/4blks (TRIPLE DOUBLE!)
Notable Performances:
Isaac Morris – 14pts/5stls/3rebs
Tobias Davies – 8pts/4asts/3rebs
Griffin Evans – 6pts/14rebs
Coach Tyler Paton-Pottage commented on the U14 Boys 1 performance:
“It was yet another tasty matchup between two Eagles side that were determined to get the win, as both teams play high paced ball, and full court press. Unfortunately, it was Newcastle that were the better team for the majority of the game, they pressed better, forced us to make uncharacteristic mistakes we led to our downfall, although a good 1st Q with some good strong finishing of advantaged situations (2v1), but Newcastle’s hot shooting from deep and constantly haggling kept them close by a 5pt game at half time. A very back and forth half really as both teams giving it all out there, but we were below average in our finishing and failing to be disciplined, this led to lack of focus in which our opponents took full advantage of. A 7-0 run with 3 mins left was the killer blow. A big week of training to get things right, but we will learn and build on this experience as these types of games are better for us long term! Positives was Conor getting a triple double being his usual self on defence, deny passes inside and also playing correct help defence, Griffin was a monster on the boards, Isaac showing everyone who to drive hard and aggressive to the hoop, and Cameron for showing us some mental resilience to bounce back from a tough 1st half, sitting out the 3rd, coming back in the 4th and scored well. 3 big wins incoming, so lets the end the season with confidence and fun!”
York Eagles 2 @ Spen Valley Vipers
U14 JrNBL North Conference 1
Result: 48-91 (WIN)
Player of the Game:
George FitzThomas – 40pts/4asts/5rebs (x4 3PM)
Notable Performances:
Nate Wilkinson – 14pts/6rebs/3stls
Coach James Searson commented on the U14 Boys 2 performance:
“Very good win. Much needed, put was down to our effort on the court to push themselves and start playing with confidence (at times too much) and moved the ball nicely at times. I was really happy with our finishing this week, everyone made it onto the scoresheet. We achieved our target set, which was to win the first quarter. Just fell short of our second target in the game (set at HT) which was to get 100pts. MVP was George FT, plenty of points, but also dished out some assists. Let’s carry on this for the reminder of the season with 2 more winnable games!”
York Eagles v Sheffield Elite
U16 JrNBL Northern Premier
Result: 81-55 (WIN)
Player of the Game:
Samuel Ho – 11pts/4stls/4asts
Notable Performances:
Ben Wells – 21pts/7rebs/2stls
Ias Morys – 15pts/7rebs/3stls
Aleks Meszek – 11pts/9rebs/2blks
Maximos Kotidis – 4pts/7asts/6rebs/4stls
Coach Reece Horton commented on the U16 Boys 1 performance:
“We played well throughout the game (finally) and we were the better team. Back-to-back wins now for the first time this season and now looking to take that confidence into the weekend in aim for another.”
