Coach James Searson commented on the U14 2’s performance:
“Considering it was our first game, and we had no preseason games, we played much better than expected. The lads worked hard and there were some small pairs of good quality basketball however the score would’ve been closer if I shot that wobble around fell in there is a lot of work on especially defensively and rebounding but not a bad starting point considering that most of the players have had no National League experience, my player of the game today was Alex Lawson who worked his socks off on both ends of the court and did good job marking Bradford star player also well done to the likes of George G, Josh, Henry who played the very first game in a Eagle jersey.”
York Eagles @ Teesside Lions
U14 JrNBL North Conference 1
Result: 41-65 (LOSS)
Player of the Game:
Conor Camplin – 10pts/4rebs
Notable Performances:
Cameron Stewart – 7pts/2asts
Coach Tyler Paton-Pottage commented on the U14’s performance:
“A tough start to the season with a lot of work needed in training, especially defensively working on getting better rebounds and denying the passing lanes. Offensively we need to be less passive and be a little bit more aggressive with our cuts of our drives and communication. Teesside came with a superior height advantage and strength advantage and bullied us off the ball for three of the 4 quarters. We had a very bright start within the first quarter with our full court press as Lions could not deal with it and we found shooting boots quickly, but we could not keep it going for the rest of the game. Onto the next game and a big week of training.”
York Eagles v Teesside Lions

Result: 50-41 (WIN)
Player of the Game:
None Selected
Notable Performances:
Amelie Hetherton – 14pts/2asts
Danika Croft – 10pts
Maya Foulkes – 10pts/4asts/3rebs/2stls
Coach Ghada Khattab commented on the U16 Girls’ performance:
“The under 16 girls open their National League campaign with a win against Teesside Lions though the game was a little rusty and their shooting way short of its best. The defence solid as usual with only occasional lapses and help defence, or the Needham move more quickly to close out. On secreted multiple opportunities, but the finishes were hard to come by compounded by shots that should have been passes or drives some serious work on shooting incoming training this week.”
York Eagles @ Scarborough Seahawks
U18 Men JrNBL North Conference 1
Result: 120-49 (WIN)
Player of the Game:
Eddy Wragg – 24pts/6rebs/4stls

Iasonas Morys – 12pts/6asts/3rebs
Lukai Ostrowski – 13pts/3rebs
Coach Paul Pickering commented on U18’s performance:
“Oh, I do like to be beside the seaside… or certainly that is what our Eagles support with singing by the end of today’s early season encounter with new league entrance Scarborough. We came out of the block fast this week after I asked for more in the first quarter than we did last week, and the guys responded with 15 unanswered points to open the quarter. Today’s victory came from active high-pressure defence and turning into transition offence getting many steals and open layups as guys sprinted the floor + looking for the open man. This is particularly pleasing as it is what we worked on in the gym this week. The game had several shoutout to players playing for the first time in the squad and to the usual suspects putting in great performances, but the credits must be reserved for Eddy Wragg, who put down a very competent 24 points and looked assured whilst doing so hustling on defence as well. Scarborough expectedly switched to a zone and overload and ball screen offence against this worked with patience + intelligent shot taking which was the key. To work on this week will be tighten up our punch d and getting ready for a cup fixture at home to premier side might going in two weeks.”
York Eagles 2 v Sheffield Dreamchasers
U16 JrNBL North Conference 2
Result: 69-30 (WIN)
Players of the game:
Seb Robinson
Ollie Llewellyn
Coach Dave Smith commented on the U16 2’s Performance:
“ a game against a very weak and new Sheffield DreamChasers team. The score quickly became 15 to 2 and we continued and a gradual increase of the gap in the score and the Sheffield team with only 6 players never really stood a chance against a half court pressing York team. A good start, but work to do…”
Sunday 29th September
York Eagles @ City of Leeds Gold
U12 Tri Tournament
Result: 34-31 (WIN)
Player of the Game:
Tom Baxter – 4pts/5rebs/3asts/8stls
York Eagles @ City of Leeds Black
U12 Tri Tournament
Result: 42-28 (WIN)
Player of the Game:
Rupert Wilson -
Coach Rich Hall commented on the U12s Performances:
“The under 12’s battled to 2 fantastic away wins against City of Leeds gold and black today marking the first time we have defeated the gold team with this group. After a slow start we came from behind to take the win with some great defence and scoring down the stretch. X2 3 pointers in three possessions from Arthur and great finishing in the fourth quarter from Tom, Harry + Arthur and Will sealed the win, but the defence and rebounds as a team was also key. The second game will still a tough challenge with tired legs starting to show, but we started to move the ball more and find openings and ran out with a 14pt victory.
A great starts a season but plenty to work on going forward.”
Notable Performances:
Vs Gold
Arthur Bewlay – 13pts/4stls
Isen Ndulue – 2pts/5rebs/3blks
Vs Black
Harry George – 10pts/5rebs
Thomas Atkinson – 6pts/8rebs
York Eagles 3 v Hatfield Fliers
U16 JrNBL North Conference 2
Result: 41-46 (LOSS)
Player of the Game:
Sam Smales – 17pts/8rebs
Coach Gary Poole commented on the U16 3’s Performance:
“Sunday, we did not look our best, but it was a learning opportunity, because a game like this can serve us a purpose later in the season, so we can be better the next game. Need to go back to basics in terms of defence, both on ball and off ball, and communicate on screens. Hatfield were a very well drilled team, and we really should come out with a different outcome next time we play them.”
York Eagles v Newcastle Eagles
U16 JrNBL Northern Premier
Result: 69-85 (LOSS)
Player of the Game:
Iasonas Morys – 18pts/6rebs/4stls
Notable Performances:
Ben Wells – 17pts/8rebs
Lukas Karmazyn – 12pts/3rebs/4stls
Aleks Meszek – 10pts/7rebs/2blks
Coach Reece Horton’s comments on the U16 1’s performance:
“Tough start to the season against a strong Newcastle team. We played really well but didn’t quite have enough to come away with the victory. If we brin the Sam intensity and commitment for the rest of the year, results will come.”
