THE SEASON HAS BEGUN!
Saturday 5th October
York Eagles @ Leeds LDM
U12s Boys Friendly
Result: 48-25 (WIN)
Player of the Game:
Judah Wilson – 15pts
Notable Performances:
Tom Baxter – 6pts/5asts
Isen Ndulue – 4pts/8rebs
Will Hall – 4pts/6stls
Coach Adam Wilson commented on the U12s Boys performance:
“The U12 team is a joy to coach. They had each other’s backs on Saturday and worked hard for one another. We continued our pattern of starting slow but having a very strong second half. We need to be ready to go from the jump! Making sure we had good spacing on the floor for our guards to be able to drive to the basket, draw defenders and dish the ball, or pass and cut was key to lots of our baskets. We need to keep working on our motion offence to get those easy points. Most of the opposition's points came from us not closing out shooters or not moving over to play help defence quickly enough. Playing with pressure as a team is key going forward. Overall, another good win.”
York Eagles @ Lincolnshire Panthers
U16 JrNBL North Conference 2
Result: 33-114 (LOSS)
Coach Dave Smith commented on the U16 2’s performance:
“A real eye-opener for a team that has very little experience in the national league, as we were well beaten by a good Panthers team. A lot of work to be done, but lessons have been learnt.”
York Eagles @ City of Leeds Black
U16 Girls JrNBL North Conference
Result: 71-31 (WIN)
Player of the Game:
Molly Jones – 10pts/8rebs/3stls
Notable Performances:
Amelie Hetherton – 12pts/4asts/4rebs
Zofia Parsons – 14pts/10rebs/3asts/2blks
Maya Foulkes – 15pts/7rebs/5asts
Katherine Hirst – 10pts/4asts
Coach Ghada Khattab commented on the U16 Girls’ performance:
“After a slightly rusty start last week, the girls are back in business and delivered a strong and credible performance. Our defence was tight, and our movement in transition swift and effective. Our team plays paid dividends, creating opportunities to the basket and allowing several players to score in double-digits, including Maya, Zofia, Amelie, Katherine and Molly. Our offensive rebounds were particularly strong, with a bit more work still needed on defensive rebounds and help defence. More work on shooting is in order too, but I’m proud of the girls for acting on feedback and stepping up their game week.”
Sunday 29th September
York Eagles @ Manchester Magic
U16 JrNBL Northern Premier
Result: 73-95 (LOSS)
Player of the Game:
Maximos Kotidis
Coach Reece Horton commented on the U16 1’s Performance:
“Manchester was better than us in all categories. A game for the boys to see the standard required to be champions. It was a very physical game, and we battled to the end with only 8 players. We will keep working hard at practice, ready for the cup next weekend.”
York Eagles @ Sheffield Sharks Blue
U16 JrNBL North Conference 2
Result: 23-100 (LOSS)
Player of the Game:
Sam Smales
Coach Gary Poole commented on the U16 3’s performance:
“In what proved to be a challenging matchup, Eagles faced an uphill battle against a dominant Sharks. Whilst the scoreline was tough to swallow, the game provided invaluable lessons and moments displayed the Eagle’s determination and unity in the face of adversity. Every one of the boys worked hard all game + it was good to give the new guys some court time. Onto the next…”
York Eagles v Whitby Jets
U12 Boys Friendly
Result: 62-6 (WIN)
Player of the Game:
Cameron Dodd
Notable Performances:
Tom Baxter – 12pts/3asts
Isen Ndulue – 8pts/6rebs
Arthur Bewlay – 8pts/5rebs
Finlay Tucker – 6pts/7rebs
Coach Tyler Paton-Pottage commented on the U12s Performance:
“Hard to pick out bad things after a dominant display against an inexperienced Jets team, who struggled to get the ball into the interior. With our experience, we moved the ball well in transition and rebounded very well on offence to create 2nd looks. Need work on their finishing touches under the basket as well as shooting, and better understanding of basic 5 out conceptual offence.”
York Eagles 2 @ Newcastle Eagles 2
U14 JrNBL North Conference 1
Result: 45-121 (LOSS)
Player of the Game:
Billy Kemp
Coach James Searson commented on the U14 2’s performance:
“Tough defeat against a very big, strong and well-drilled Newcastle side. Proud of the lads today for sticking at it and pushing all the way till the end. End of the 3rd quarter and into the 4th quarter, we started to give as good as we got. Billy Kemp stood out today as he was all over the court, challenging for loose balls and kept the team spirit high.”
York Eagles v Calderdale Explorers
U14 JrNBL North Conference 1
Result: 60-44 (WIN)
Player of the Game:
James Clayton – 16pts/7rebs/4asts
Notable Performances:
Tobias Davies – 10pts/4rebs
Conor Camplin – 7pts/17rebs/5asts/4stls
Coach Tyler Paton-Pottage commented on the U14 1’s performance:
“First home game of the season, and I demanded persistence on defence with our press and Calderdale could not really handle the pressure for most of the game. Offensively, still not quite hitting the standards but showed glimpses with good passing and also getting plenty of looks from beyond the arc. Some eventually dropped when it mattered at the end. A week off now - so a big push in training to tighten things up before we hit the road again at Leeds a week on Saturday.”
ONTO WEEK 2!
