Saturday 12th October
York Eagles 3 v Doncaster Eagles
U16 JrNBL North Conference 2
Result: 46-84 (LOSS)
Player of the Game: Sam Smales – 22pts/14rebs
Notable Performances:
Lewis Longhorn – 5pts/4rebs
Coach Gary Poole commented on the U16 Boys 3 performance:
“We always knew that Doncaster would be decent competition and that proved to be the case. Although by the end of the Q1 we were down by 13pts, I think both Mike and I could see we were playing a completely different game to the one we’d played a week before in Sheffield! Our game flowed a little better, we were scoring points and had more confidence than in previous games. The boys seemed to take in what we had worked on in practice + used this in the game… sometimes! Doncaster were a well-drilled team and were better than us. Our big issue is turnovers, 26 in total, which lead to Doncaster scoring off them meaning the big margin of their victory. However, the game gave some of the newer team members some valuable game time. We pulled 34 rebounds and won the 4th quarter! Fighting team spirit till the end.”
York Eagles v Hartlepool Huskies
U16 JrNBL Girls North Conference
Result: 91-25 (WIN)
Player of the Game: THE TEAM!!!
Notable Performances:
Maya Foulkes – 20pts/9asts/11rebs
Zofia Parsons – 22pts/4asts/7rebs/12stls
Amelie Hetherton – 18pts/6asts/4rebs/6stls
Danika Croft – 19pts/9asts/4rebs/7stls
Coach Ghada Khattab commented on the U16 Girls performance:
“The girls had a superb performance this week, applying intensity to both of their offence and defence throughout. While finishing was a little off in the 1Q, our strategic moves and ability to find the space were present from the start, so once we found our shooting boots in the 2Q we never looked back. Every player scored and contributed vital stats, team spirit was high, and our less experienced players upped their game while the more seasoned ones delivered fantastic performances. Zofia, Maya, Danika + Amelie were a force to be reckoned with, rattling Huskies with full court pressure defence, steals and rebounds and executing great assists on offence while also scoring in the double digits. A performance to be proud of.”
York Eagles 2 v Rotherham Hawks
U16 JrNBL North Conference 2
Result: 72-54 (WIN)
Player of the Game: James Wormald – 19pts/11rebs/5stls
Notable Performances:
Ollie Llewellyn – 24pts/11rebs/4stls
Lucas Hazell – 9pts/12rebs/2blks
Travis Hayton – 8pts/5rebs/2stls
Coach Dave Smith commented on the U16 Boys 2 performance:
“A good win today with several players making improvements on last week. Alex Duke scored his first baskets, Ollie Llewellyn shot a few good shots from beyond the arc, James Wormald showed everyone who to finish with your left hand, Isaac Devine made a great pass, Lucas Hazell rebounded with aggression, and we finished as wins because of this.”

York Eagles v Myerscough Academy
U18 SureShot National Cup – Round 2
Result: 49-83 (LOSS)
Player of the Game: Sam Walker-Taylor
Notable Performances:
Emilis Vildziunas – 15pts/8rebs
Eric Boyes- 8pts
Coach Paul Pickering commented on the U18’s performance:
“A very difficult fixture against a top academy in the cup this week for our new U18s squad. Our coaching team asked for hustle, heart and effort from the start along with intensity on D and whatever the result we would be proud of the guys. Things changed dramatically when we found ourselves leading for most of the 1Q and the start of the 2Q, with Myerscough starting to find their groove and ending the half 8 points up. We went into the locker room asking for more of the same with a focus on boxing out individual match ups and faster transition defence. We could not keep up with the conditioning of the program at our opponent’s academy ultimately prevailed, as they wore us down physically. I was proud of the teams' efforts and with some good ball movement and times, we gave it our very best shot against a very strong team that will no doubt be fighting for the title in a league above. Practice will consist of transition and conditioning this week in lead up to a game against local rivals Leeds Gold.”
