Report by Tyler Paton-Pottage

Below is our Wrap of the games that took place in week 10 of the 2023/24 season.
Saturday 2nd December 2023
York Eagles v City of Leeds III
U14 Jr NBL North Conference 1
Result: 107-6 (Win)
Player (s) of the game:
Will Poole – 22pts/16rebs
Toby Gee – 4pts/6asts/6stls/6reb
Coach Tyler Paton-Pottage commented on the U14s performance:
“Another impressive win against a very unsurprisingly weak team, who I thought actually gave us a better fight than last week even though they scored 6 points. We were ruthless for the whole game, getting steals and good layups in abundance. A very one-sided matchup, but some standout plays with good defensive structure and improving all over!”
Notable Performances:
Luke Lattimore-Bahrij – 22pts/x2 3PM/10-13FG/2stls
Caleb Flitcroft – 12pts/5rebs/5stls
Sam Smales – 10pts/4rebs/2blks
James Wormald – 10pts/4rebs/3stls
Hayden Fogg – 10pts/6stls
York Eagles B v Teesside Lions
U14 Jr NBL North Conference 1
Result: 45-80 (Loss)
Player of the game:
Griffin Evans – 8pts/7rebs/3stls
Coach Steve Hardisty commented on the U14s B Performance:
“The game was always going to be challenging to win, and whilst the boys didn’t play badly, the performance was a difficult one to find many positives to write about. The boys went through the motions, but it was another game where they didn’t really get going, and even lacked our usual last-quarter strong finish. The boys need to start trying to outplay the opposition as a team. More energy, intensity, movement and discipline are required.”
York Eagles v City of Leeds
U13 North Yorkshire
Result: 32-46 (Loss)
Player of the Game:
Jack Bishop – 19pts
Coach Azaan Iyer commented on the U13s Performance:
“First game for many of the U13S boys and I couldn't be prouder of them, really slow start in the first for most of the guys but they picked it up and switched on later in the game. Lots of things to work on with these boys but with teamwork and resilience we will get there.”
York Eagles v City of Leeds
U14 Jr NBL Girls North Conference
Result: 81-32 (Won)
Player (s) of the Game:
Grace Roberts – 31pts
Maya Foulkes – 17pts/9asts/3rebs
Zofia Parsons – 7pts/5stls/4rebs
Coach Ghada Khattab commented on the U14s Girls Performance:
“The girls continue to grow from strength to strength. After a slightly rusty 1st Qtr where few of our baskets were going in even though we were creating the opportunities, we were back to full form from the 2nd quarter onwards and dominated for the rest of the game. Our defence was solid no matter who we sent on court, which is true credit to the whole team. We executed our strategic plays beautifully and talked to each other on court. Grace Roberts had a magnificent run with 31 points and unstoppable fastbreaks. These were made possible by a whole-team effort, with special mention to Zofia, who snatched the ball from pretty much every opponent, and Maya, who dished out the passes in the right places at the right time while also contributing to the scoresheet.”
Notable Performances:
Amelie Hetherton – 10pts/3asts/3blks
Danika Croft – 10pts/2asts
York Eagles II v Barnsley Metros Academy
U16 Jr NBL North Conference 1
Result: 86-56 (Won)
Player of the Game:
Ralph Smith – 17pts
Coach Reece Horton commented on the U16s II Performance:
“Really pleased with the performance, played good team defence and scored consistently which led to us winning all 4 quarters. Best team game we’ve played so far.”
Notable Performances:
Noah Cronwright – 14pts/6rebs
Alex Holloway – 10pts/3asts/3stls
Ben Kelsall – 11pts/7rebs/1blk
Declan Corbally – 10pts/4rebs
Sunday 3rd December 2023
York Eagles @ MK Breakers
U16 Jr NBL Northern Premier
Result: 85-70 (Win)
Player of the game:
Aleks Meszek – 8pts/5asts/4rebs
Coach Paul Pickering commented on the U16s Performance:
“A big win on Sunday at home to a strong Rockets side. After a very slow start, they shaped up similarly to us with no notable size advantage which suits us as we struggle against depth with bigs as Giants. It was a strong team performance with a notable standout from Meszek who was unguardable around the hoop and spaced and passed really well and made things happen for other teammates. Eric stepped up to lead the ball handling and some quality from Wragg and Ostrowksi added to the strong performance as per usual from Vildziunas and Andrews. The latter inspiring the squad throughout and back led the coach's direction as we changed a lot throughout. 2 very winnable games now leading to Christmas.”
Notable Performances:
Emilis Vildziunas – 23pts/14rebs/5asts
George Andrews – 14pts/5asts/4rebs/2stls
Eddy Wragg – 12pts/4rebs
Lukai Ostrowksi – 12pts/5rebs
Associate Head Coach Tyler Paton-Pottage comments on this week:
“A good week for many of our teams; my U14s won big against rivals Leeds as they head into the Xmas period 9-1 with a tough game coming up to maintain their run. U14s Girls are still unbeaten even after a slow start vs Leeds. U13s got more experience against a tough team, look forward to seeing them play on Saturday v Derbyshire. Both U16s are improving, and both won, showing intent that we (the coaches) are developing players correctly and we are now making progress.”
