Make Space for Girls Festival at Rowntree Park 2024: Celebrating Basketball and Encouraging Older Girls to Use Outdoor Parks

As part of the Make Space for Girls Campaign, The Friends of Rowntree Park are hosting a month-long festival in Rowntree Park during June 2024. This exciting event aims to inspire and encourage older girls to use outdoor parks by providing various activities, including sports, fitness classes, art workshops, music performances, dance sessions, and nature-related experiences.

Basketball Sessions with Coach Ghada:

One of the standout success stories from last year’s festival was the introduction of basketball sessions led by Coach Ghada. Her passion for the game and commitment to spread the love of basketball amongst teenage girls have made a significant impact. Here’s what you need to join the basketball sessions:

Dates and Times:

Coach Ghada and some of our fantastic York Eagles players will be running basketball sessions on Friday evenings throughout June 2024.

Mark your calendars for June 14th, 21st, and 28th, all starting at 6:30 PM and ending at 8 pm.

Location:

The sessions will take place right in the heart of Rowntree Park, providing a picturesque backdrop for practising hoops and honing basketball skills.

Who Can Participate?:

These sessions are open to girls aged 8 to 14, whether beginners or seasoned players.

If you’ve never touched a basketball before, don’t worry! Coach Ghada creates a welcoming and supportive environment for everyone.

What to Expect:

The sessions will focus on skill development, teamwork, and character building.

Participants will learn fundamental basketball techniques, including dribbling, shooting, passing, and defensive strategies.
