Report by Tyler Paton-Pottage

WEEK 5!
Saturday 26th October
York Eagles v East Durham Lions
U14 JrNBL North Conference 1
Result: 58-35 (WIN)
Player of the Game:
Jake Richardson – 9pts/3rebs
Notable Performances:
James Clayton – 10pts/8rebs/3stls/2blks
Cameron Stewart – 9pts/4rebs
Isaac Morris – 6pts/7rebs/2asts/2stls
Coach Tyler Paton-Pottage commented on the U14 Boys 1 performance:
“First of a five-home game stretch so as play on our “new” York College sports hall, and we christened it with a win. Although the performance was not great, with some work needed on passing through transition, rebounding on both ends was not up to my standards. Also, a lot of work to be done on offensive motions, looked very lacklustre throughout and reliant on special moments of brilliance from individuals.”
York Eagles @ Bradford Dragons
U18 JrNBL North Conference 1
Result: 54-94 (WIN)
Player of the Game:
Emilis Vildziunas – 18pts/7rebs/5asts
Notable Performances:
Travis Greening – 20pts/4asts/3stls
Lukai Ostrowski – 11pts
Alex Holloway – 9pts
Eric Boyes – 5pts/6asts/2rebs
Korbin Evans – 6pts/11rebs/4asts/1blk
Coach Paul Pickering commented on the U18’s performance:
“Groundhog Day from the last visit to Bradford a few weeks ago, again coming with the same convincing 40-point victory. An MVP performance from Emilis, which was mainly given for his defence intensity and refusal to let his man beat him. Bradford could not handle our full-court pressure, and the early turnovers resulted in us taking a commanding lead which our opponents couldn't overturn. Some big minutes from our bench today and valuable experience. We will be working on passing out of double pressure and boxing out from defensive rounds in the gym this week, ready for COLBA II on the road next weekend.”
York Eagles 2 @ Teesside Lions
U14 JrNBL North Conference 1
Result: 108-29 (LOSS)
Player of the Game:
George Griffiths – 8pts/2rebs (x2 3PM)
Coach Reece Horton commented on the U14 Boys 2 performance:
“The boys fought well throughout the game, they worked better as a team in the second half and more points were ultimately scored. A tough game against a very good team in Teesside. It is not about the result; it's about challenging yourself and getting better each game. Well done.”
York Eagles 3 @ Derbyshire Arrows
U16 JrNBL North Conference 2
Result: 78-52 (LOSS)
Player of the Game:
Sam Smales – 23pts/10rebs
Trevor Wood – 14pts (x3 3PM)/3rebs/2blks
Coach Mike Wood commented on the U16 Boys 3 performance:
“What an incredible display of effort and tenacity last Saturday! Their energy was outstanding, and it was clear from the moment the game started that every single one of them came with 100%. The progress the team is making is evident – not only in your skills but in there growing basketball IQ. Reading the floor and awareness is getting sharper each game. Yes, the win did elude us this time, but today packed a lot of positives!”
York Eagles 2 @ Sheffield Elite 2
U16 JrNBL North Conference 2
Result: 85-58 (LOSS)
Player of the Game:
Ollie Llewellyn – 16pts
Notable Performances:
James Wormald – 18pts
Maks Molka – 9pts (x1 3PM)
Coach Dave Smith commented on the U16 Boys 2 Performances:
“Down by 23 at half time, I challenged the boys to be better in the second half which went on to lose only by 9pts. So, a game lost but several positives- our 2 “youngsters” did well, James and Ollie continued their run of scoring performances. Leo, Micah, Laurence and Isaac looked more ready to improve their decision-making under pressure, I think when we play Elite next the result may be different…”
Sunday 27th October
York Eagles v Leicester Riders
U16 JrNBL Northern Premier
Result:
Player of the Game:
Lukas Karmazyn – 24pts/9stls
Notable Performances:
Ias Morys – 22pts/8rebs/5stls/4asts
Aleks Meszek – 20pts/9rebs/2blks
Coach Reece Horton commented on the U16 1’s performance:
“Really tough loss against the Riders. Played well in spells rather than consistently throughout and did not sustain good defensive play for all 4 quarters. Need to improve on defence to get better results in this league.”
