WEEK 6!
Saturday 2nd November
York Eagles v Spen Valley Vipers
U14 JrNBL North Conference 1
Result: 120-20 (WIN)
Player of the Game: Jake Richardson – 30pts/3rebs/3asts
Notable Performances:
Henderson Ho – 14pts/14rebs
Tobias Davies – 14pts/7rebs/3stls/2blks
Griffin Evans – 11pts/15rebs/5stls
Cameron Stewart – 12pts/10rebs/4stls
Bertie Hardisty – 12pts/6rebs/5stls/3asts
Coach Tyler Paton-Pottage commented on the U14 Boys 1 performance:
“A very impressive performance from the group, as we wounded the Vipers with great offensive play throughout with some great passes into lanes which had cutters and fact we didn’t have to force many shots knowing we could be aggressive going to the hoop with success, matched with that was our defensive pressure throughout and our ability to rebound and reading passes was also a key factor to a BIG win. Standout performances from Jake Richardson, Henderson Ho and the returning Griffin Evans.”
York Eagles 3 @ Sheffield Dreamchasers
U18 JrNBL North Conference 2
Result: 49-64 (WIN)
Player of the Game: Will Poole – 8pts/14rebs/1blk
Notable Performances:
Sam Smales – 17pts/6rebs/6blks
Iker Martinez Chavana – 10pts
Coach Gary Poole commented on the U16 Boys 3 performance:
“We played well at times but for much of the game, we made things hard for ourselves – turning over the ball 24 times, which included unnecessary ones, feet on the line inbounding, and some poor passing. Coach Mike and I want to see the boys' box out more often, more plays being ran, learn the advantages of screens, so things to work on in practice this week. We did show some great team play at times, 100% effort as always and good team spirit and togetherness. A game in which we should have won by a larger margin, but a win is a win.”
York Eagles @ Mersey Mavericks
U14 JrNBL Girls North Conference 1
Result: 63-58 (LOSS)
Player of the Game: Maya Foulkes – 18pts/5asts
Notable Performances:
Amelie Hetherton – 17pts/3rebs/2asts
Coach Ghada Khattab commented on the U16 Girls’ performance:
“Every season has a bit of a low point, and this was definitely ours this week. We travelled to Merseyside with a depleted team due to the holidays and illness and had a hellish journey on the M60 which required most of our players to get on court shortly after they arrived. A record number of fouls called in the first few minutes (and throughout) seriously crippled our defence and our usual strong strategies fell apart when we let the game get to our heads. We had great moments on our offence when we went in with the required intensity + strategy, but inconsistency led to missed opportunities reduced our confidence and enabling our opponents to take advantage. Some great performances from Maya + Amelie, supported by each of Katherine and Danika. Much to work on in the coming weeks, but this is definitely an experience we can bounce back from.
York Eagles 2 @ Calderdale Explorers
U14 JrNBL North Conference 1
Result: 129-32 (LOSS)
Player of the Game: Henry Lawson
Coach James Searson commented on the U14 Boys 2 Perfomance:
“We did not turn up for this game, both offensively and defensively. We were generally poor throughout allowing Calderdale to take us apart. A late game to forget as maybe some players aren’t used to it. There was some nice three pointers from George G . MVP was Henry Lawson, he scored some nice baskets and played well defensively.”
York Eagles v Manchester Giants
U16 JrNBL Northern Premier
Result: 47-119 (LOSS)
Player of the Game: Iasonas Morys
Sunday 3rd November
York Eagles @ City of Leeds Basketball Academy II
U18 JrNBL North Conference 1
Result: 48-100 (WIN)
Player of the Game: Emilis Vildziunas – 36pts/16rebs/7asts
Notable Performances:
Travis Greening – 17pts/3stls
Korbin Evans – 9pts/10rebs
Lukai Ostrowski – 10pts/5stls
Eddy Wragg – 14pts/5rebs
Coach Paul Pickering commented on the U18’s performance:
“Total Basketball… this week we witnessed the result of many weeks of hard work in the gym mastering a blend of 3 teams and player roles to get cohesion on the court. We did lots of basics such as on and off-ball movement, rebounding well and saw an improvement on defensive communication as well. Our pressure was too much for Leeds and this resulted in multiple turnovers being forced and us punishing them for this. The performance was not faultless, however, and we need to work on finishing at the rim efficiently and protect the basketball under pressure from high-intensity defence before our away trip to Newcastle next weekend.”
York Eagles 2 v Barnsley Advance
U16 JrNBL North Conference 2
Result: 47-79 (LOSS)
Player of the Game: Alex Duke
Coach Dave Smith commented on the U16 Boys 2 performance:
“A disappointing display of what Eagles basketball should be. We were only down by 8 at half time and challenged them to strength our defence as well as have more fluidity on offence. However, we struggled and Barnsley to take advantage as we played poor defence, struggled in transition or create anything offensively. Difficult to find any positives except for our Player of the game, Alex Duke. Alex showed some enormous potential he has. I hope the other players take on the challenge of their improvement. We move onto the next game being Hatfield next Saturday.”
York Eagles v Manchester Magic
U16 National Cup – Round 3
Result: 32-82 (LOSS)
Player of the game: Kaiden Dimmey – 7pts/6rebs/3stls
Coach Reece Horton commented on the U16 Boys 1 performances this weekend:
“Two very tough games this weekend against big Manchester teams. When the results do not go your way, you have to use these games as a learning process. The competition in the premier league is fierce, and we need to step up to that level.”
