WEEK 7!
Saturday 9th November
York Eagles 2 v York Eagles 1
U14 JrNBL North Conference 1
Result: 26-123 (LOSS)
Player of the Game: George Fitz-Thomas
Coach James Searson commented on the U14 Boys 2 performance:
“A much-improved performance mentally, we had more energy and kept fighting, which was missing last week. There is still plenty to work on; defensive transition, team offence using 5 out and trusting each other off the ball to do the right things. Always playing the U14 1s was going to be difficult as they showed us the level we need to aspire to, in which we will get there in time.”
York Eagles 1 @ York Eagles 2
U14 JrNBL North Conference 1
Result: 26-123 (WIN)
Player of the Game: Isaac Morris – 19pts/7rebs
Notable Performances:
Henderson Ho – 22pts/12rebs/5stls
Tobias Davies – 18pts/8rebs/3stls/3asts
Jake Richardson – 12pts/6asts/4stls/3rebs
James Clayton – 8pts/6asts/5rebs/3blks
Griffin Evans – 9pts/13rebs/4stls
Coach Kris Gladwin commented on the U14 Boys 1 performance:
“It was a bit strange sitting on the away side at York College, but the novelty was quickly put to the side. The 1st quarter was not the best basketball as we played individually rather than as a team and stern words were had at the end of it. The 2nd quarter was much improved as passes were being played and baskets made. The 3rd quarter was our strongest as strong defensive pressure led to turnovers and these quick breaks were converted to points and more of the same in the 4th. The main positives were the lads are starting to take pride in others scoring and becoming unselfish as some got a good number of assists. Highest percentage of FG this season too! The transition on both ends was also solid. Still to work on are rebounding as some still ball watch and not enough boxing out. Footwork was also loose, with a few travels and not squaring up when receiving the ball. MVP was Isaac, Coaches player was Henderson + Players Player was Maks.”
York Eagles 3 @ Lincolnshire Panthers
U16 JrNBL North Conference 2
Result: 109-39 (LOSS)
Player of the Game:
Trevor Wood – 13pts
Notable Performances:
Hayden Fogg – 7pts/9rebs
Coach Mike Wood commented on the U16 Boys 3 performance:
“Yesterday’s match was tough both physically and mentally. It’s essential to recognise our strengths and areas for improvement. We started strong, moved the ball well, set effective screens and managed to score early on. Free throws were also solid at nearly 70%. But rebounding was not great, remember shooters can rebound their own shot. Areas to improve are we need to work on full-court press break, we allow pressure to succumb us, which led to a horrific number of turnovers. We need to be a little smarter when passing/dribbling out of a press.”
York Eagles v Manchester Mystics II
U16 JrNBL Girls North Conference 1
Result: 34-54 (LOSS)
Player of the Game:
Maya Foulkes – 23pts/6rebs/2blks (5/10 3PM)
Coach Ghada Khattab commented on the U16 Girls’ performance:
“A frustrating performance this week as the girls initiated some excellent plays but just couldn’t find the finish. We also gave too many intercepted passes, leading to costly turnovers. Mystics 2 had excellent team defence and good old-fashioned plain fundamentals. We needed to trust in our moves and be more patient when circulating the ball, but it wasn’t to be. Excellent shooting by Maya Foulkes and string defence by everyone at times, particularly in the 3rd Quarter, but inconsistency hurt us. A big week of training ahead!”
York Eagles 2 @ Hatfield Fliers
U16 JrNBL North Conference 2
Result: 46-38 (LOSS)
Player(s) of the Game: James Wormald + Ben Marsden
Coach Dave Smith commented on the U16 Boys 2 performance:
“A low-scoring game with few moments of good basketball mixed with travelling, illegal screens and missed Free Throws. Too many York players are still making poor decisions in games that allow us not to punish our opponents. MVPs were James Wormald + Ben Marsden, James for his all-around contributions and Ben for finally being an offensive threat.”
York Eagles @ Mersey Mavericks
U16 JrNBL Northern Premier
Result:
Player of the Game: Ioannis Aslanidis
Notable Performances:
Ben Wells – 19pts/10rebs/4stls
Coach Reece Horton commented on the U16 Boys 1 performance:
“A game in which we did not convert our chances. We played well for short periods of time, and we need to extend it throughout the game in order to see better results. MVP was Ioannis.”
Sunday 10th November
York Eagles @ Sheffield Hatters
U13 Girls Exhibition
Result: 23-75 (LOSS)
Player(s) of the Game:
Yue Fay Ng – 10pts/4rebs/2stls
Florence Walker – 6pts/2asts/2rebs
Coach Ghada Khattab commented on the U13 Girls performance:
“A good experience for our U13 girls team with half of the girls playing their first ever match and included two delightful year 5s punching well above their weight. Nerves were the order of the day in the 1st half as the girls tried to fend off a well-drilled hatters side, but a chat at halftime saw them go back stronger and perform some lovely team plays with mature assists from Sylvie, and some great moves by each of Yue Fay, Florence and Meg. Our new players took advice on board and were already attempting shots and defending better by the end. Lots of us to learn but very proud of the girls for the energy they showed!”
York Eagles @ Newcastle Eagles
U18 JrNBL North Conference 1
Result: 43-58 (WIN)
Player(s) of the Game: Korbin Evans + Jack Moore
Notable Performances:
Emilis Vildziunas – 12pts
Coach Paul Pickering commented on the U18s performance:
“2 Eagles face each other but only one can emerge victorious. Both teams went into the game with something to prove as they are both teams to beat in the league and ultimately, we prevailed but the result was hard fought. It was our toughest test to date with some real height and physicality amongst the Newcastle side. It was a low-scoring affair with the defence the real winner. We were solid with our pressure and primary help on the defence end of the court but lacked creativity and movement on offence and failed to get the drop on our distance shooting. The officiating seemed a little one-sided and the game ended with some passionate exchanges but another W for the guys and retaining our unbeaten run!”
ONTO WEEK 8!
