WEEK 13!

Saturday 4th January

York Eagles v City of Leeds 2

U16 JrNBL GirlsNorth Conference

Result: 66-30 (WIN)

Players of the Game:

M. Foulkes – 20pts/5rebs/5stls (x2 3PM)

K. Hirst – 9pts/6asts/5rebs

Notable Performances:

A. Hetherton – 15pts/2asts/2stls

Coach Ghada Khattab commented on the U16 Girls performance:

“The girls produced a credible performance this week with a very strong 1st half which saw them through even when they seemed to run out of steam in the 2nd half. On offence, our passing was great, our scoring was efficient, and our use of space ideal for getting good looks. On defence, our full-court press was effective as we stole the ball, forced turnovers and also rebounded with fire in our bellies. Not without withstanding the possible holiday break effect in the 2nd half, as we now need to make sure we work on building back up our stamina, keep the communication going (especially on defence) and square up whilst evaluating our options.”

York Eagles 3 v Sheffield Sharks 1

U16 JrNBL North Conference 2

Result: 27-71 (LOSS)

Player of the Game: T. Charman – 4pts/6rebs/4stls

Notable Performances:

W. Poole – 8pts/7rebs/2blks

S. Smales – 5pts/5asts/8rebs/3blks

R. Nolson – 5pts (x1 3PM)

Coach Tyler Paton-Pottage commented on the U16 Boys 3 Performance:

“Sharks brought intensity, power inside the paint and ability to shoot, we certainly matched that in the first half as it was a very back-and-forth half with us being the better side, thanks to some good ball movement, then executed with some good finishing from T. Charman + W. Poole. We then hit some big threes from R. Nolson + T. Wood to shock the Sharks at HT as we frustrated them big time. We needed to deal with their reaction in the 2nd half, unfortunately, we could not deal with their shooting prowess, we struggled to rebound with any determination and lost all purpose of offence, so we were looking for moments and scraps rather than settling and running plays/motions. Still things to iron out; better passing in half-court settings, better defensive pressure in the half-court and better dealing with the full-court press. However, if we see more of the 1st half being replicated into 4 quarters and in more games, better results will come.”

Sunday 5th January

York Eagles 2 v Lincolnshire Panthers was postponed due to the adverse weather conditions and will be rescheduled at a later date.
