U16 JrNBL GirlsNorth Conference
Result: 82-24 (WIN)
Players of the Game:
Maya Foulkes – 27pts/5rebs/4rebs (x4 3PM)
Zofia Parsons – 19pts/10rebs/5stls/5asts
Notable Performances:
Amelie Hetherton – 14pts/6rebs/5asts
Danika Croft – 10pts/7rebs/4asts/2stls
Coach Ghada Khattab commented on the U16 Girls performance:
“The girls delivered a very strong team performance last Saturday, applying defensive pressure which rattled our opponents and gave us a comfortable lead early on. On offence, we made great use of the space and applied strategic plays that now come naturally to the players on offence, showing signs of a team that has playing together for a while. Still a bit of work needed on free throws and half court defence, as well as needing to step in a bit earlier on help defence. But the highlight for me this week was the brilliant scoring all-round, with the majority of our players making 50% or higher FGs and the great support from the bench.”
York Eagles 3 @ Doncaster Eagles
U16 JrNBL North Conference 2
Result: 72-55 (LOSS)
Player of the Game:
Will Poole – 12pts/7rebs
Notable Performances:
Sam Smales – 11pts/6rebs/2blks
Luke Lattimore-Bahrij – 9pts/4rebs/2blks
Trevor Wood – 9pts
Coach Mike Wood commented on the U16 Boys 3 Performance:
“This was another good performance on a whole. We are starting to elevate our game to the next level as we put in a much-improved performance at Doncaster. While the first half tested our skills and resilience, the 2nd half were a masterclass in execution. We displayed excellent teamwork, including sharp passing, finding open players, minimizing turnovers and adapting effectively by reading the defence. Gary and I were left in awe at times by the great moves and plays being brought to the court. Let’s build on this momentum! Continue applying that second half performances in future and we will get some big results!”
York Eagles 2 @ Rotherham Hawks
U16 JrNBL North Conference 2
Result: 59-42 (WIN)
Player of the Game:
James Wormald – 29pts/5rebs/5stls
Notable performances:
Alex Duke – 7pts
Coach Dave Smith commented on the U16 Boys 2 Performance:
“The game was of 2 halves. First half we were a little sloppy on both ends and were 28-25 down at halftime. However, 2nd half we were much better in every aspect – we ended up winning by 17 points. Because we hustled more, stronger defensive pressure and offensive was more controlled, and we got up and down the court quicker. Super defence throughout from Micah Wild, an offensive master class by James Wormald with 29pts, supported by ever-improving Alex Duke.”
York Eagles @ City of Birmingham Rockets
U16 JrNBL Northern Premier
Result: 68-55 (LOSS)
Player of the Game:
Maximos Kotidis – 8pts
Notable Performances:
Ben Wells – 12pts
Kaiden Dimney – 10pts
Lukas Karmazyn – 8pts
Coach Reece Horton commented on the U16 Boys 1 Performance:
“A game in which we played solid defence for most part of the game, but we were unable to score consistently to take any control. We actually won 2 of the 4 quarters, so we are looking forward to our rematch with Rockets this Sunday.”
York Eagles @ Hartlepool Huskies
U18 JrNBL North Conference 1
Result: 91-44
Player (s) of the Game:
Eddy Wragg – 17pts/3rebs
Jack Armstrong – 11pts/13rebs/4stls
Notable Performances:
Travis Greening – 27pts/3rebs/3stls
Lukai Ostrowski – 14pts/3asts/6rebs
Coach Paul Pickering commented on the U18 Men performance:
“Continuing our winning ways into 2025 we got the job done with a depleted squad up in Hartlepool. The whole team were tired after the game and this was down to the extensive show of full court pressure throughout the game which Hartlepool could not handle. Our offensive motion was good at times and we got many very good looks but after the first our shots wouldn't drop and we had to go to the basket. Our drive, kick, fill and extra pass need work before we make the important trip to Leeds in 2 weeks but all round an excellent team effort with all players on the stat sheet for points and extras.”
Sunday 12th January
York Eagles v City of Leeds Black
U14 JrNBL North Conference 1
Result: 71-38 (WIN)
Player of the Game:
James Clayton – 15pts/12rebs/6stls/4asts/2blks
Notable Performances:
Finlay Lewis – 16pts/3asts/2stls
Oscar Longbottom – 12pts/5rebs
Leo Frusher – 10pts/8rebs/4stls
Isaac Morris – 10pts/11rebs
Coach Kris Gladwin commented on the U14 Boys 1 performance:
“With 5 players missing through injury or Aspire this was a challenge and an opportunity for others to step up and make a case for more court time. The 1st half was certainly strong on the scoreboard as we took a 42-14 lead at half time. However, this was not the dominant performance this would suggest. We were on team fouls in both quarters due to sloppy defensive work and some poor turnovers. Some strong work under the basket and mid-range from th boys kept the scoreboard ticking over. Leeds had their chances, but they did not execute, we also rebounded well and transitioned them into good fast breaks. 2nd half was less than impressive, we had some poor decisions, and a lack of penetration to the basket, while Leeds started to get more shots to go. The 4th was better as we ran 5 out more efficiently. A mix bag on both ends in the game but we hustled well.”
York Eagles @ Leeds LDM
U13 Boys Yorkshire Regional
Result: 57-56 (WIN)
Player of the Game:
George FitzThomas – 35pts (GAME WINNER 3PM)
Notable Performances:
Harry Kim – 8pts
Coach James Searson commented on the U13 Boys' performance:
“What a fantastic game to start 2025. We were far from playing our best and at times made it hard for ourselves, but we looked in control for most of the game. Was an extraordinary final 30 seconds of the game with George FT hitting a 3-pointer to take a 2 pt lead (54-53) and then LDM replied with their own 3 to put them up with 3 seconds left (56-54), but then George FT had other ideas, and we got the ball up to our MVP hit a buzzer beater shot to win the game. Well done to all the lads! Everyone’s efforts were needed to get the win over the line, as we look to remain unbeaten at U13.”
