Eagles Weekly Wrap 2024-11-27

Wednesday 27th November 2024

Report by Tyler Paton-Pottage

WEEK 9!

Saturday 23rd November

York Eagles 2 v Spen Valley Vipers

U14 JrNBL North Conference 1

Result: 47-43 (WIN)

Player of the Game:

Alex Lawson – 10pts/6rebs/3stls

Notable Performances:

George Fitz-Thomas – 19pts/4rebs

Coach Tyler Paton-Pottage commented on the U14 Boys 2 performance:

“A big win for our U14 2s on Saturday, we certainly made it hard work though as Spen Valley Vipers gave us a good run in the end as they hit some big shots, was impressed in the way we conducted ourselves and kept our high energy play throughout! George FT with crucial finishes and Alex was great on both ends of the court, honourable mentions for Adam K, who grew into the game and got going in the 2nd half with some good layups and Raylan for some great on ball pressure defence.”

York Eagles v Newcastle Eagles 2

U14 JrNBL North Conference 1

Result: 73-53 (WIN)

Player of the Game:

Tobias Davies – 16pts/5rebs

Notable Performances:

James Clayton – 10pts/10rebs/4stls

Conor – 8pts/13rebs/3stls/3blks

Maks Molka – 8pts/5stls

Coach Tyler Paton-Pottage commented on the U14 Boys 1 performance:

“Another big home matchup as welcomed Newcastle to the Eagles eyrie. It was a battle between Eagles and only one could be superior. Both evenly matched in height and size, and both played with high tempo full court presses. We got off to a good start, with a lot of smart plays on the defensive end with numerous passes being denied which we turned into good scoring opportunities. Newcastle struggled to deal with our very aggressive press at times. A chat at half time about being more patient and not rushing for the sake of a quick score. We always come out firing in the third, with some great team play which got us a lead of 26 going into the 4th. However, the negative was we lacked composure and killer instincts to finish a game off as we allowed Newcastle to claw back to a near single figure game after a 12-0 run. We hit the rest button, and then scored off some good transition play to get the game done. A weekend off now, so we about to hit the court hard in ready for a redemption game v Teesside Lions as we look to challenge them for the league title.”

York Eagles v University of York Women’s 1

Friendly

Result: 32-37 (LOSS)

Player of the Game:

Amelie Hetherton

Coach Ghada Khattab commented on the U16 Girls Performance:

“With last weekend being free from NL games for the U16 Girls, they played a friendly against University of York Women instead. This was a fantastic opportunity for them to practice their zone offence/defence and play against more robust players. The girls a credible performance, defending as a team and effectively stopping relentless drives by the opposition. They also improved their zone play, showing more awareness of the required movement to create advantages for the shooters and drivers. Altogether a very positive experience if a bit rough at times and one they should be very proud of. The win felt within reach, but our shooting wasn’t quite at its best.”

Sunday 24th November

York Eagles 3 v York Eagles 2

U16 JrNBL North Conference 2

Result: 73-39

Players of the Game:

York Eagles 3 –

Will Poole – 14pts/8rebs/3stls

Luke Lattimore-Bahrij – 14pts/5rebs/4stls

York Eagles 2 –

Lucas Hazell – 14pts/9rebs

Notable Performances:

U16 3

Sam Smales – 13pts/6rebs

Lewis Longhorn – 7pts

U16 2

Kingsley Coleman – 7pts/4rebs/4blks

Coach Gary Poole commented on the U16 Boys 3 performance:

“We delivered an exceptional performance over our fellow Eagles team. We showed exceptional teamwork and determination on the court. The match was a testament to collective effort, with every player contributing to both offence and defence. Special recognition goes to Luke and Will who lead the team in scoring. Luke consistently found ways to break through the opposition’s defence whilst Will continues to dominate the boards and put back with more success. Sam Smales also got himself into double figures again with 13pts. The teamwork on display was great to see, with smart passes, quick transitions and excellent communication keeping Eagles 2 on the back foot. Coaches MVP was Lewis Longhorn, who got a fantastic reverse layup, and his most points scored ever in a game! Well done fella!”

Coach Dave Smith commented on the U16 Boys 2 performance:

“With a slightly depleted offensive threat in our team, it gave other chance to try score, with mixed success. Our main area to focus was boxing out and ability to play team defence, which requires communication, active help and better ball pressure. We cannot allow ourselves to repeat this because better teams will hurt us. Lucas was good, aggressive as normal and scored well, Kingsley also showed glimpses of what he could offer in future games. Still want to see more energy from the bench as U16 3 brought it all game.”

York Eagles @ Sheffield Elite

U16 JrNBL Northern Premier

Result: 74-62 (LOSS)

Player of the Game:

Lukas Karmazyn

Notable Performances:

Ben Wells – 13pts

Bill Tran – 11pts

Coach Reece Horton commented on the U16 Boys 1 performance:

“A great team effort with 4 players in double figures and a couple just under 10pts. Pleased with the development of the boys in terms of skills and mentality stay at it. At times we did well to control the game, but a similar story is that we need to sustain it for longer periods in order to get more successful results. I cannot fault the lads' efforts!”

York Eagles v Tees Valley Mohawks

U18 JrNBL North Conference 1

Result: 73-46 (WIN)

Player of the Game:

Jack Moore – 8pts/15rebs

Notable Performances:

Emilis Vildziunas – 19pts/8rebs/6blks

Coach Paul Pickering commented on the U18s performance:

“It was a game of 2 halves today with us really struggling early on to get into our groove on the offensive end of the floor, but our defensive intensity and ability to close out the driving lanes kept us in the game. At half time the coaches conducted a robust team talk and the guys reacted and came out firing. In the 3rd, we started to move the ball quickly made good decisions to get good looks and most importantly our shots started to fall. Tees Valley applied pressure and played a lot of zone but it was not a match for our bench and today was a full TEAM effort with everyone in the scoresheet with points and rebounds for ALL! Honourable mention to Ralph who came out with his best performance of the season and Jack Moore for an excellent all-round game!”
