WEEK 10!
Saturday 30th November
York Eagles v Leeds LDM
U13 Girls Yorkshire Regional
Result: 42-59 (LOSS)
Players of the Game:
Sylvie Blanchard – 15pts/14rebs/4stls
Sophia Peacock – 6pts/5rebs
Coach Ghada Khattab commented on the U13 Girls performance:
“The girls did brilliantly today, considering how new some of them are to basketball and how little training they’ve had. It was honestly a joy to watch and a big improvement from Sheffield a few weeks ago. The girls are starting to pass the ball around with more success and even look to drive to the hoop more frequently. Need some more confidence in doing so and keeping up with our progress on defence too. Main thing to work on is our fitness and being able to stay with fast breaks and our ball handling as some dribble with head down. But a HUGE stride forward.”
York Eagles U14 1 v York Eagles U16 2
Friendly
Result: 53-41 (WIN)
Player of the Game:
James Clayton – 10pts/7rebs/3stls
Notable Performances:
Cameron Stewart – 10pts (x2 3PM)
Coach Tyler Paton-Pottage commented on the U14 Boys 1 performance:
“An extraordinarily strong effort by everyone today although we were out much with size and speed, but that did not stop us going at them showing what we are about. Resilience and strength as a unit especially in the first half as we were up 20+ points at one stage. This was down to great ball pressure using our press and forcing the under 16s into awkward situations which often led to turnovers and steals. A great result considering when a lads start the summer showing that what we’re doing training is now paying off and always good to be a team and older category.”
York Eagles 3 @ Sheffield Elite 2
U16 JrNBL North Conference 2
Result: 44-57 (WIN)
Player of the Game:
Iker Martinez Chavana
Coach Gary Poole commented on the U16 Boys 3 Performance:
“Unfortunately, we do not have any stats from the game and the scoresheet was a little readable to see how many points rebounds et cetera players got but end of the day, the win was the most important thing. It was an amazing game as we led the game throughout, but it was no walk over. The team is overall were well matched and it was on the edge of the seat job all the way through. The team worked well and responded to anything we discussed that needed improvement. We did have a dry spell scoring and we still allowed too many turnovers whilst under pressure but kept composed when when it mattered, the team spirit I cannot fault it was great to see some of the new boys Henry, Milo, Dylan and Freddie step up and also good consistent play for the more experienced players we held on for a fantastic win that’s about let’s keep it going!”

Emilis Vildziunas – 9pts/10rebs/3blks
Jack Moore – 6pts/10rebs/6asts/6stls
Coach Paul Pickering commented on the U18 Men performance:
"A professional job to remain top of the league. We did what we needed today in professional, respectful and efficient manner against a weak Leeds side. Our pressure in the first was too much for them and this set the tone for the game. We were complacent on defence in the 2nd allowing them to score double digits but we picked up with an excellent 1-3-1 zonal trap in the 3rd. Standout performance from Travis and Jack M today but a captain's performance from Korbin ended with him getting MVP."
York Eagles v Derby Trailblazers
U16 JrNBL Northern Premier
Result: 67-72 (LOSS)
Player of the Game:
Ben Wells – 17pts/9rebs
Notable Performances:
Lukas Karmazyn – 13pts/5stls
Ias Morys – 15pts/8rebs
Coach Reece Horton commented on the U16 Boys 1 performance:
“A frustrating loss. We created good chances but when it mattered most, we failed to convert them. Defensively, we need to work more as a team on the opposing team’s key players and rebound collectively. More work to do in training this week.”
York Eagles @ Sheffield Advance

Coach James Searson commented on the U13 Boys performance:
“Excellent performance today from every player. We pressed from the start giving ourselves a 20-point lead. Fast breaked the whole game and got back on defence just as quick. Was really impressed with the energy, game speed and team spirit everyone showed. Need to improve our help defence and high-speed finishing.”
York Eagles v City of Leeds Gold
U16 JrNBL Girls North Conference
Result: 32-59 (LOSS)
Player of the Game:
Ava Lad
Coach Ghada Khattab commented on the U16 Girls performance:
“A big part of our learning journey this season is going to be about maintaining a good standard of play even when we’re losing. We knew that Leeds was going to be a tough side. Dealing with constant half court pressure is very much a working progress. It is a shame in the manner we lost, as there were moments of brilliance, but we lack mental toughness to stay at it and we will keep working on that.”
York Eagles 2 @ Sheffield Sharks 2
U16 JrNBL North Conference 2
Result: 60-41 (LOSS)
Players of the Game:
James Clayton + Bertie Hardisty
Notable Performances:
James Wormald – 18pts
Coach Dave Smith commented on the U16 Boys 2 performance:
“The game was a game of two halves. The half started as our last few games, a little lacklustre with us struggling to battle and create anything meaningful on offence, which resulted us losing 24-2 in Q1. A stern chat at half time, seemingly worked as we WON the half 26-20. I hope that half is a turning point for rest of the season with no more nightmare 1st quarter. Thanks to James and Bertie for stepping up from U14s and showing the lads how to get stuck in.”
