Eagles Weekly Wrap 2024-01-22

Wednesday 22nd January 2025

Report by Tyler Paton-Pottage

WEEK 15!

Saturday 18th January

York Eagles @ City of Leeds

U13 Friendly

Result: 36-51 (WIN)

Player of the Game: Maks Molka – 12pts/3rebs

Notable Performances:

George FitzThomas – 12pts/5rebs/4stls

Jake Richardson – 7pts/7rebs/4asts

Adam Kahil – 7pts/3stls

Coach Tyler Paton-Pottage commented on the U13 Boys performance:

“The aim of this friendly was to get players from 2 teams to gel together and to see what U14 looks like next season and for it to be competitive. Leeds brought size and rebound power, while we had the technical ability in our passing and ball handling. A cagey start with neither team getting a foothold. We settled eventually with some good baskets from ball movement. The 2Q was our finest with some great full-court pressure and getting opportunities from their mistakes which we took well. The final quarter was a nervy one as we struggled to finish but a couple of fine outside shots from Maks + Raylan got us over the line.”

York Eagles v City of Leeds White

U11 Mixed

Result: 28-28 (TIE)

Player of the Game: Oscar Kemp

Coach Dave Smith commented on the U11s Performance:

“A super game today with our youngest Eagles! The players should be immensely proud of themselves. It was a great spectacle as the game ended in a tie after three overtime periods. MVP goes to Oscar who went through the Leeds defence like a hot knife through butter. Great performance from Heath Ho too, and a great crowd of 60 parents who were thoroughly entertained. Massive thanks to Coach Dave V + Hussain and new TMs Umay and James for your support.”

York Eagles v City of Leeds Gold

U12 Boys Yorkshire Regional

Result: 33-58 (LOSS)

Notable Performances:

Judah Wilson – 12pts/6rebs/4asts/2blks

Arthur Veige – 6pts/3blks

Finlay Tucker – 6pts

Coach Adam Wilson commented on the U12 Boys performance:

"On Saturday we saw the best Leeds could offer, but we did not see the best of our U12s. We played on the back foot, didn’t seem to have much fight about us, and played most of the game like we had the hand break on. We improved massively as the game went on, but we lost the first quarter by too much to ever make a comeback. There were some great moments in the game and some players who really stood out. Arty Veige had one of his best games I have seen him play. His control of the ball and work on defence were great. Judah worked incredibly have and it showed in his stats. Fin Tucker had a big impact on the court due to his energy a great finishing making 75% from the field. Next time we need a bit more belief we can win, a bit more fighting for the ball, and to come ready to work from the first whistle."

Sunday 19th January

York Eagles @ Leicester Riders

U16 JrNBL Girls North Conference

Result: 46-45 (LOSS)

Player (s) of the Game: THE TEAM

Notable Performances:

Amelie Hetherton – 10pts/2rebs/2blks

Maya Foulkes – 10pts/2rebs/2stls

Coach Ghada Khattab commented on the U16 Girls Performance:

“A game that started really strong for our Eagles players ended with a loss with the narrowest of margins due to difficult circumstances in the 2nd half. An injury at half time which took out our point guard followed by multiple players being fouled out seriously stripped the team of its strongest players. Our surviving squad fought valiantly but we couldn’t hold on to the lead. However, I am proud of the girls for retaining their sportsmanship till the end, we just need to keep bundling our resilience and will certainly know how to fight back next time.”

York Eagles v City of Birmingham Rockets

U16 JrNBL Northern Premier

Result: 75-87 (LOSS)

Player of the Game:

Ben Wells – 23pts/7rebs

Notable Performances:

Iasonas Morys – 17pts/3rebs

Aleks Meszek – 12pts/6rebs

Lukas Karmazyn – 11pts/4rebs/4stls

Coach Reece Horton commented on the U16 Boys 1 Performance:

“The team played well for periods of the game but was not able to keep the same intensity level for the whole 40 minutes. Our decisions under pressure need to improve and we need to have better poise.”

York Eagles 2 v Lincolnshire Panthers

U16 JrNBL North Conference 2

Result: 29-64 (LOSS)

Player of the Game: Micah Wild

Notable Performances:

Alex Duke – 8pts/10rebs/4blks

Ollie Llewellyn – 10pts/6rebs/4stls/2blks

Coach Dave Smith commented on the U16 Boys 2 performance:

“Constant improvement is the key and from an 80+ point defeat earlier to lose by 35 is progress. Scores showed we struggled to score 10pts a quarter with players not able to have the confidence to break down a very physical Panthers team. We mostly lack the “fight” necessary to compete against tough teams. MVP Micah for his nonstop efforts when on the court.”
