Report by Tyler Paton-Pottage
WEEK 19!
Saturday 15th February
York Eagles 3 v Lincolnshire Panthers
U16 JrNBL North Conference 2
Result: 27-76 (LOSS)
Player of the Game:
Freddie Drummond – 8pts/6rebs/2blks
Notable Performances:
Hayden Fogg – 2pts/4asts/6rebs/3stls
Lewis Longhorn – 5pts
Coach Tyler Paton-Pottage commented on the U16 Boys 3 performance:
“Whilst having noticeably less experience and physical strength in comparison to a very strong Panthers, for 3 quarters we frustrated them with good defence, up until the final quarter when Panthers got going was when the scoreline became a little big. This was a good chance for our newer players to get more minutes, Henry Hall getting his first taste of NL and finished the game off with a great finish. Still work to be done dealing with the pressure whilst dribbling and a bit of shooting work.”
York Eagles v Leicester Riders
U16 JrNBL Northern Premier
Result: 64-56 (WIN)
Player of the Game:
Lukas Karmazyn – 11pts
Notable Performances:
Aleks Meszek – 15pts/10rebs/5asts
Ben Wells + Ias Morys – 10pts
Coach Reece Horton commented on the U16 Boys 1 Performance:
“A great team effort today. We set the tone early at the start of the game and never let up. On the floor for loose balls and battling for rebounds. A much-needed win indeed and got some redemption on Riders.”
York Eagles 2 v East Durham Lions
U14 JrNBL North Conference 1
Result: 20-102 (LOSS)
Player of the Game:
Joshua Tse – 6pts/5rebs/1blk/3stls
Coach James Searson commented on the U14 Boys 2 performance:
“It was a game of two halves. The first half we were unorganised, lacked ideas and energy and identity, and we were punished for this as Durham took full advantage. Second half was much better, as we showed determination and desire to win the ball back. We completed targets set after the disaster in the 1st half. The aim now is to start a game how we finished this one. MVP was Josh, he worked the hardest and always looked a threat on offence.”
York Eagles 2 v Hatfield Fliers
U16 JrNBL North Conference 2
Result: 36-53 (LOSS)
Player of the Game:
James Wormald – 20pts/5rebs/3stls
Notable performance:
Josh Amoedo – 10pts/5rebs/2stls
Coach Dave Smith commented on the U16 Boys 2 Performance:
“A harsh result to take but we were 4 points down going into the final quarter, so we had hope, but failed to deliver on offence as we lost by 17pts. Hatfield had good discipline when it came to the nitty gritty. They moved the ball better and looked to score. We lacked confidence and some desire to go at defence. MVP was James, who scored well.”
Sunday 16th February
York Eagles v Mersey Mavericks
U16 JrNBL Northern Premier
Result: 66-68 (LOSS)
Player of the Game:
Ias Morys – 22pts/9rebs/4stls
Notable Performances:
Ben Wells – 12pts/10rebs/4asts/3stls
Maximos Kotidis – 11pts/6stls (x3 3PM)
Lukas Karmazyn – 9pts/8rebs/2blks/3asts
Coach Reece Horton commented on the U16 Boys 1 performance:
“Our second game of the weekend and the boys played well again. A great late charge, but we fell just short of the win. If we keep the same intensity for the remainder of the season, then more wins to come.”
York Eagles v Newcastle Eagles
U18 JrNBL North Conference 1
Result: 65-57 (WIN)
Player of the Game:
Lukai Ostrowski- 24pts/5rebs (x4 3PM)
Notable Performances:
Travis Greening – 12pts/4rebs/4stls
Eddy Wragg – 10pts/3stls
Sam Walker-Taylor – 2pts/4asts/10rebs/9stls
Coach Paul Pickering commented on the U18 Men’s performance:
"York flies high despite a serious height disadvantage. We were up against it in the height department on Sunday, but this was nullified by our ball movement, grit and determination. A sharp shooting Lukai led the scoring, and Newcastle couldn't guard him both inside the paint and from 3. Jack M. and Sam WT. combined to do their usual things that allowed the rest of the team to function and some tough stuff inside from Ben W. on his 3rd game of the weekend rounded off our frustration of the other Eagles. It was a hard-fought game throughout and showed our will to win even when not having a comfortable lead. Some mentorship from Captain Evans at half time had the lads ready to fire and push on to the end. Undefeated 12-0...double header next weekend!"
